About Me
I DON’T FOLLOW TRENDS. I CREATE THEM.
Knowledge Shared. Experience Preserved.
My name is Kalin Anastasov. Throughout my life, I have worked in several diverse fields that have shaped both my professional career and my worldview: civil engineering, environmental protection, public service, sports management, tennis development, education, and, more recently, information technology and programming.
I was born in Bulgaria in February 1952. I graduated from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in hydro-meliorative construction. Over more than four decades of professional activity, I have worked as a designer, consultant, project manager, supervisor, environmental expert, sports administrator, tennis coach, and manager.
What connects all of these activities is a simple belief: Knowledge becomes valuable only when it is shared and used to improve people’s lives.
Civil Engineering and Environmental Work
My professional career began in 1977 as a civil engineer and designer. Over the years, I progressed from a project designer to a leader of engineering teams, regional irrigation advisor, consultant, and independent designer.
I have authored and participated in numerous projects related to:
- Water management and irrigation systems
- Drainage projects and small dams
- Fish farms and aquaculture
- Environmental protection and regional development
One of my proudest engineering achievements was receiving Patent No. 34,345 (1985) for the invention of a new type of fish pool.
Public Participation and Environmental Advocacy
Since 1994, I have served as President of the environmental NGO EcoSouthwest. In this role, I have managed and coordinated more than 30 ecological projects focused on sustainable development, water resource management, environmental education, and legislation. These initiatives ranged from creating Bulgaria’s first online river water database to conducting a national study on GMOs in food and agriculture.
Throughout my advocacy career, I have also served as:
- Member of the River Basin Council for the Western Aegean Region
- Member of the Bulgarian Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design
- Two-time Member of the National Interdepartmental Advisory Council on water management and food safety under World Bank/GEF and UNDP projects
- Expert for GlobeScan’s sustainability surveys for nearly a decade
I have actively promoted public participation in environmental decision-making through studies, seminars, publications, and international initiatives. Additionally, I have been an international visitor representing Bulgaria to the US Department of Agriculture, the British Ministry of Environment, and USAID—which included being part of the first official Bulgarian delegation to visit the White House Oval Office.
Tennis and Sports Development
Alongside my engineering career, tennis has been a lifelong passion.
In 1978, I brought tennis to Blagoevgrad. What began with two wooden rackets from China on a volleyball court grew by 1987 into one of the finest tennis centers in Europe—boasting 13 courts, a central stadium with 1,000 seats, a swimming pool, and, at my suggestion, the very first baseball field in Bulgaria.
I managed this complex from 1985 to 1993, and again from 1999 to 2013. Two of my players reached elite national and international levels: Stoyan Anastassov, a national NAIA champion with the University of Mobile, and Iva Mihailova, who holds the fifth-highest winning record in the history of Baylor University.
Over the years, my sports leadership roles have included:
- Tennis Facility Manager and Director of Tennis Operations
- Tournament Director for national championships and international tournaments
- Head Coach for junior development and youth sports initiatives
Communication and Education
Throughout my career, I have written articles, delivered presentations, participated in international seminars, and appeared in hundreds of television, radio, and media interviews. I truly enjoy transforming complex, technical subjects into practical knowledge that people can easily understand and apply. The purpose of this website is to continue that exact mission.
Lifelong Learning
Even after decades of professional experience, I remain deeply committed to personal growth. In 2023–2024, I completed formal training in Python Programming, expanding my skills in:
- Data analysis using Pandas and NumPy
- Data visualization with Matplotlib
- Automation and core programming fundamentals
This new knowledge allows me to uniquely combine traditional engineering expertise with modern technology and digital tools.
Why This Website Exists
This digital archive was created to preserve useful information, personal experiences, research, and unique collections gathered over a lifetime. Here, you will find topics ranging from:
- Personal observations and practical engineering knowledge
- Environmental issues and water management archives
- Tennis history, coaching methodologies, and local sports heritage
- Mineral waters, balneology, and healing tourism
- Numismatic and philatelic collections (coins and stamps)
- Technology and digital coding projects
- Local heritage and archaeology
The world changes quickly, but experience gained through real work, real projects, and real people should not be lost. This website is my contribution toward preserving and sharing that experience with anyone who may benefit from it.
